The Solution-Oriented Equation. Leave Emotion out of the Equation.
It is so easy to blend personal life with professional life. For a lot of people, remote work is the new norm. Going from an in-office setting where you can separate your home life for 8 hours a day to working at home and attempting to keep your work away from your home and vice-versa. It’s hard.
Whether you are working remote or not, always remember that you have two separate responsibilities that do not intersect. It is really easy to bring the stress from home to your work and the stress from work to your home. It shows. Trust me.
Recently, I received an email from a client that is obviously stressed about a project that needs to be completed in a short timeline. One thing goes wrong and the email reads like he knew everyone personally. You know what I mean. Using attacking language. Demeaning language. Language that does nothing to move the project forward except make everyone angry. Not helpful.
I received some great advice that I use to this day: Focus on the task at hand. Leave emotion out of it.
It’s easy to say out loud but its hard to implement. When you leave emotion out of the equation, you are more productive and successful. In a project or a task, mistakes will be made. Someone will mess up. That someone might even be you. There is no room for commentary. Odds are, that person knows they messed up. The question should be, what can we do to solve the problem. What are the solutions? If we become solution-oriented, everyone goes home happy.
